Renowned filmmaker and critic Harikumar K observed that cinema is not a direct reflection of society but a creative perspective, while addressing students at the Shankaramangalam Lectures held at St. Joseph College of Communication, Changanassery. Interacting with students, he discussed the continuing relevance of Ritwik Ghatak’s Subarnarekha in contemporary times. The post-lunch session featured noted film critic C. S. Venkiteswaran, who analysed the distinctive portrayal of women in Ghatak’s Meghe Dhaka Tara. The programme was inaugurated by Harikumar K and presided over by Rev. Fr. Jophy Puthuparampil, Executive Director, Media Village. The lecture series, organised in memory of filmmaker Dr. John Shankaramangalam, marked the fifth edition of the national seminar hosted by SJCC.
