VIJNANOLSAVAM at SJCC: Academic Year Inauguration and Newcomers’ Day

The Department of Media Studies, and Animation & Design at SJCC, marked the commencement of the academic year at MV Cinemas with zeal and enthusiasm. This event, spanning over two days, was graced with esteemed guests including our alumni. The Kerala Government named the inaugural day of the new academic year “Vijnanolsavam,” while MG University opted to call it “Deeksharambham.” On July 1, the Department of Media Studies hosted its Academic Year Inauguration and Newcomers’ Day. The event was inaugurated by renowned writer and director Sri B. Unnikrishnan, who emphasized the power of cinema to bring together audiences from diverse backgrounds. He shared his personal experiences of watching Hollywood films with friends in childhood and expressed his belief that cinema is the most influential medium for people. The gathering also benefited from the insights of Mr Chackochan Pallattu, a distinguished alumnus and art director, who shared his valuable experiences and highlighted the differences between academic and professional learning. There was a ceremony honouring the MG University rank holders among the graduates in the Media Studies Department of the 2021-2024 batch. On July 2, the Department of Animation and Design inaugurated the academic year with an inspiring address by Sri Rethish Ravi, a celebrated designer and caricaturist. Rethish appreciated the parents who supported their children’s dreams and shared his journey in his expert field. Mr. Nikhil V. S, an accomplished alumnus and animator/editor, captivated the audience with his experiences and memories at SJCC. The day honoured the previous year’s university rank holders from the department. The college principal Rev. Dr. Joseph Parackal gave the welcome address on both days, and it included course specifications as the batch began their studies in the FYUGP system. He presented ten key points for them to keep in mind, motivating the students to carry forward their academic journey. Fr. Jophy Puthuparampu presided over the function on day one, while Rev. Dr. Mathew Muriankary presided over the function on the second day. Student representatives from Radio Media Village (90.8 FM) and the Incubation Center shared their experiences, inviting the freshers to explore the same. Another highlight of this day included captivating performances by the college music band. The respective HODs of Media Studies and Animation and Design proposed the vote of thanks.
