With 25 years of experience into the world of Movies, Sajan Kalathil is one of the most innovative cinematographers in the industry. Adept in managing all the visual outcomes of the film, Sajan possesses exemplary technical skills and creative insights, right from overseeing the key aspects of cinematography to the final outcome of his movies.
After passing from the Film & Television Institute of India Pune, winning the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Prize for the best film student in India, Sajan stepped into the magical world of movies with his debut film ‘Bheri’. He entered the film world under the mentorship of the famous cinematographer Venu, the whiz kid of the 90’s.
Having crafted many films, his expertise is widely sought after by directors and producers alike for perfection and finesse. Sajan has several movies to his credit in all the Indian languages. Some of the directors he worked with include Late Lohidhadas, Siby Malayil, Shivaprasad, Mathew Paul, R. Sharath, Sanil Kalthli, and Bhanuprakash.
Notable films of Sajan are Flash, Swayam, Bhudanum Chaplinum Chirikkunnu, Kallai, Maarconi Mathaai, Nilavariyathe, Nivedyam, Uthara and Virunthali. The latest in the list of the flamboyant cinematographer is the ‘ANYA’ that won the Best Motion Picture Award in Alvsbyn Film Festival Sweden. The same movie has got official entry into Toronto Independent Film Festival which has earned him industry wide recognition.
Sajan has created a niche for himself in the very demanding field of ad film cinematography. Sajan’s own studio, The ADD MAGIC in Cochin is self-designed by him in 2015. It offers eco friendly solutions for ad making like day light shooting and follows sustainable practices for budgeted set making-a huge cost saving measure for his varied clientile . Day Light Magic On Stage & Budgeted Set Making, Road Safety Awareness, showcases the work of the maestro. Always the one to push himself beyond the frontiers of this visual art, he mastered the art of digital film making. Sajan’s preference for cameras are Arri, Red, Sony, Blackmagic and Panasonic. A passionate traveller and reader, Sajan’s mastery is in setting the tone, accomplishing an impactful touch that creates the right atmosphere for the story. This is why his films have entertained, enlightened and thrilled a plethora of moviegoers.
He is independent, opinionated and knows exactly what his clients want. Enthusiastic and committed to creating thought and emotion provoking cinema, he also spends his time on teaching students on the latest techniques on camera Pan India. No doubt he is a master craftsman whose creativity will be appreciated by connoisseurs of this art.
